What Does a University Student Have to Be Proud Of?

Finding Points of Pride in Your Life

In the face of balancing academics, our social lives, work, relationships, extra-curriculars, family, and responsibilities, it can be easy to beat yourself up when everything starts to feel like too much. Instead of dedicating ourselves to our own progress, we compare ourselves to the progress of others and lose sight of our achievements and how far we’ve come.

The Social Engineer: A Spotlight on Jason Wang

Jason Wang, University of Alberta
From grade school to post-secondary, students are often reminded of the looming dangers climate change poses to our society. They learn coastal cities are at risk of flooding from melting sea ice, and that severe weather will become more common thanks to rising global temperatures. The Bear-ies: U of A’s Student Life Awards

vector courtesy of superawesomevectors.com

The prestigious Bear-ie Awards have been called “yummy”, “tasty”, and “good for you” by those who thought we were talking about berries and not awards. For those who didn’t think the Bear-ies were fruit, people gave such illustrious praise as; “what are those ones again?” and simply, “huh?”

How to Have Faith in Yourself

How to Have Faith in Yourself

Dear Nature: Do you hate me?

Dear Nature - Do you hate me?
Dear Nature,

I’ve been meaning to have this conversation with you for a while, Nature. The animals may love you, but I still have mixed feelings. What was once a childhood playground has now become a hotspot for scary, gross insects, and grass and trees that do not bode well for my sinuses.

Have I tried to stop the Wonder Woman’s in my life?

Wonder Woman - We Need Her

Superhero films have become a staple genre in the world of blockbusters and have even reached a point where they hold a degree of influence and cultural significance in our society. Children and sometimes even adults look up to these characters as symbols of hope, enactors of change and models of courage. However, despite all the different stories and unique adventures that studios and filmmakers have brought us, we’ve rarely seen a woman in her own movie using the gifts she’s been given to make a difference in the world. Iron-Man. Bat-man. Spider-man. It’s always been a man in a cape, a man with a lot of money, a man who’s a genius or a man with otherworldly powers who’s saved the world in his own movie.
